A little while ago I started writing a book about a girl (Andromeda) whose family owns a time travel machine. Her older siblings (Perseus and Cassiopeia, Percy and Cassie for short.) travel in time to find out about the past, but Andromeda has never done it. When the story starts, Andromeda is going back in time for the first time. Unfortunately, I never finished the book. So, I thought we could do a collaborative story with it. Oh! And for the ones who don’t know where the names come from, Perseus, Cassiopeia, and Andromeda are all from the same story in greek myths.

I love the names! How generous of you to share your story. 🙂
June 11, 2020 at 11:48 am #50179Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
I’ve wanted to do a collaborative story! I think I might join if it works out 🙂
What is the max number of main characters you want in the story? Just the three siblings?
June 11, 2020 at 12:01 pm #50180Kylie WingfeatherGuest
I was thinking about four to five people. There’s other characters too. Like the people Andromeda (Anie is her nickname; it’s pronounced Annie.) meets when she time travels.
June 11, 2020 at 12:22 pm #50183Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Cool! Sounds good!
June 11, 2020 at 1:48 pm #50186CrazywriterGuest
I’d like to join!
June 11, 2020 at 5:10 pm #50191Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Yay!! Now there’s three of us!
June 11, 2020 at 5:14 pm #50192CrazywriterGuest
Are you new here thwapling?
June 11, 2020 at 5:49 pm #50193Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Yeah, I am. I discovered this site recently and I love it!
June 11, 2020 at 5:59 pm #50194Wingiby IggibyGuest
Howdy! I’d love to join, a time-travel story sounds beyond cool! However, Kinnan was going to start another one too; so if that gets going I might not join, because if I participate in to many I am bound to get overwhelmed and not type as much as I might…. So I’ll see! But I’ll probably read your tale just because it sounds so interesting! 😀
June 11, 2020 at 7:04 pm #50200Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
I totally get it, Wingiby! I hope you can join (I absolutely love reading your posts!) but I understand if you can’t 🙂
June 11, 2020 at 6:00 pm #50195Wingiby IggibyGuest
P.S. Kylie, those names are terrific! I love reading old Greek myths partly because they are so outrageous, and partly because their interesting…. 😛
June 11, 2020 at 8:28 pm #50204Kylie WingfeatherGuest
I know! Greek myths are awesome!
June 11, 2020 at 9:28 pm #50205CrazywriterGuest
So do we make our characters or do you give us one?
June 12, 2020 at 12:56 pm #50221Kylie WingfeatherGuest
Well. I think I’m going to stick to Andromeda, but y’all can make up your own character. Or, you can use Perseus or Cassiopeia. And I realize I haven’t described Anie yet, so here is what she looks like:
Wavy brown hair, light green eyes, freckles. Wears a variety of things depending on the time period.
Speaking of which, what time period should we do?
June 12, 2020 at 1:29 pm #50222Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Ok, sounds good!
I actually was wondering that. I don’t really know, what time period do you and Crazywriter think?
Also, what exactly is the plot? I know she time travels, but what is going to happen? Is she going to be stuck in a certain time period for some reason? Like, the time machine broke or something and that’s where she meets our characters? What do ya’ll think?
June 12, 2020 at 2:34 pm #50223CrazywriterGuest
Maybe futuristic? Or ancient?
Just wondering Thwap, are you a boy or girl?
I’ll take Perseus.
Dark brown hair, blue eyes, also has a lot of freckles, muscular,
June 12, 2020 at 2:48 pm #50224Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
I’m a girl 🙂
I’ll take Cassiopeia, so we’re all siblings
Wait, how old are they?
June 12, 2020 at 2:52 pm #50226Wingiby IggibyGuest
So… I’d think I’d like to join, if that’s all right! I’ll think up my character and post when I’ve got it.
June 12, 2020 at 2:59 pm #50227Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Sounds great, Wingiby! I’m so glad you could join!
June 12, 2020 at 3:02 pm #50228CrazywriterGuest
Ok, seems like there’s alot more girls on here than boys. Maybe boys are less inclined to writing. I’m a boy, though. I dont know. [Shrug]
June 12, 2020 at 3:16 pm #50230Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
You’re right, Crazywriter. I never noticed that
June 12, 2020 at 3:15 pm #50229Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Hold on, I forgot to post her personality:
The water (like swimming)
Something bad happening and it being her fault
Also, she’s a slow runner
I’ve never done a collaborative story before, so I’m just getting the hang of it! FYI!
June 12, 2020 at 3:32 pm #50231Wingiby IggibyGuest
Thanks, y’all! What time period are we going to go into? I think I will do a girl, just because I’m one myself.
June 12, 2020 at 3:40 pm #50232Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
I actually don’t know what time period, I don’t think we’ve decided
June 12, 2020 at 3:51 pm #50233Wingiby IggibyGuest
Thanks! Here’s my character:
Name: Silvia North — Nickname: Siv or “you stubborn red-head!”
Appearance: Average height; flaming-red hair; hazel eyes.
Clothes: Whatever befits the time period, but she doesn’t often dress normally.
Likes: Rain; candy; animals; anything the color blue (even blue-footed boobies).
Dislikes: Betrayal; being trampled by things; being sick (especially on weekends).
Age: Fourteen (but can pass as a few years younger, or older, depending on how she likes it. It all depends).
Personality: Protective of friends; very energetic and often says things in inappropriate times without meaning too; and can be bit haughty and stubborn.
Pet: I’ll choose that soon…. but it probably won’t be ordinary!
As you can see, I have a thing with wacky characters! Hope this is all right 😉
June 12, 2020 at 3:52 pm #50234Wingiby IggibyGuest
Oops! Forgot to say I’ll post hobbies when we find out what time period 🙂
June 12, 2020 at 4:00 pm #50235Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Sounds awesome!! I love your character!
I also love wacky characters; they’re honestly part of what makes a story great!
June 12, 2020 at 4:08 pm #50236Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Darn! I forgot to post hobbies too!
Hobbies: Researching and watching birds (They’re her favorite animal); Climbing trees; Going back in history (obviously 😉 ) and exploring
June 12, 2020 at 6:52 pm #50241Wingiby iggybiGuest
Thanks, Thwapling! (I love the name, by the way!) Wacky characters ARE awesome! 😛
June 12, 2020 at 6:56 pm #50242Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Thank you! I love your name, too! It’s so awesome!
June 12, 2020 at 7:57 pm #50244Wingiby IggibyGuest
June 12, 2020 at 8:17 pm #50247Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
What’s the basic plot, guys? Do we even have a plan XD? I’m trying to plan Cassie (Like her character arc, etc.) but I’m having trouble without the main story line.
June 13, 2020 at 11:39 am #50256Kylie WingfeatherGuest
I forgot to say that Anie’s twelve.
June 13, 2020 at 3:25 pm #50258Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Should Cassie be 14ish then? What age gap did you have in mind for the siblings?
June 14, 2020 at 12:39 pm #50279Kylie WingfeatherGuest
And another thing I forgot to say: their parents are historians (it makes sense that they would be). When the kids get back from wherever they were in time, they tell their parents about the time period and their parents write it down. And the age gap; I was thinking about 2 years between each of the siblings.
June 14, 2020 at 12:52 pm #50280Kylie WingfeatherGuest
I forgot to post Anie’s personality, so here it is:
Acts like: protective, kind, shy around new people.
Loves: reading, writing, drawing, singing, dancing, sewing, climbing trees, swimming in the summer, being with her family and friends.
Dislikes: being hurt, someone else getting hurt on her watch, when characters in books do stupid things, Komodo dragons, and snakes.
June 14, 2020 at 1:37 pm #50281CrazywriterGuest
So Perseus is 16,
Likes: Dragons, swords, wrestling, and fire. Also likes certain snakes (Sorry Kylie!)
Dislikes: Pain, friends & family in pain
June 14, 2020 at 2:29 pm #50284Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Alright! Sounds good, guys!
June 18, 2020 at 11:55 am #50352Marcus TheendGuest
is there still room for one more person? this sounds absolutely awesome, and i would totally enjoy joining this story.
June 18, 2020 at 3:55 pm #50370Kylie WingfeatherGuest
There’s room for you.
June 30, 2020 at 4:03 pm #50685Denali ChristiansonGuest
Hey guys can I join? I would probably make my own character.
June 30, 2020 at 4:20 pm #50691CrazywriterGuest
So when can we start posting?
June 30, 2020 at 5:01 pm #50713Kylie WingfeatherGuest
You can start posting whenever you want.
June 30, 2020 at 5:05 pm #50714Denali ChristiansonGuest
YAY!!!!! Okay here’s my character.

I was thinking maybe your characters could meet up with Kira at some point.
June 30, 2020 at 5:17 pm #50718Denali ChristiansonGuest
Time period I think should be present day, just as sort of an anchor period, or maybe a couple centuries into the future. I’m thinking I’m going to have Kira from a time period farther in the future than y’all’s but I’ll edit that once you guys decide.
And of course I forgot to post stuff on Kira.
Hobbies: tinkering, making stuff out of trash, walking through the rain, hiking, climbing on anything and everything, and reading and writing. Also time travel, of course!
Likes: Pine cones, raspberry iced tea, techy stuff, flowers, the rainforest, and playing with her dog (who I also forgot to mention! Her name is Noriana and she’s a husky. Kira just calls her Nori. She found her abandoned on the streets of Pierre, SD when Kira was 14)
June 30, 2020 at 7:28 pm #50745Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Yay!! We have Marcus and Denali now!! I’m so glad you guys are joining us! Also, awesome character, Denali! Ok, that’s probably enough exclamation points.
June 30, 2020 at 9:09 pm #50766Marcus TheendGuest
here’s my character
BIO: He spent 3 years a marine in the DOTC(department of time control) department, before going AWOL and deserting. nobody really knows why he did that, but there were rumors that he was a genetically modified prototype, built for combat in various time periods.
yup. thats basically it. im going to leave his personality pretty blank because he doesnt really know who he is. he woke up in some sort of abandoned facility with little memory. ill write a post pretty soon
June 30, 2020 at 9:44 pm #50775Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Your character is sooo cool!
I’ll also try to post soon
July 1, 2020 at 9:08 am #50786CrazywriterGuest
Percy also has an affinity for bazookas
July 1, 2020 at 11:36 am #50790Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Nice! I like that!
July 1, 2020 at 1:32 pm #50792Wingiby IggibyGuest
Ok, so I’ve decided that since my character is unusual, she should be from an unusual time period. 😛 Here goes nothing, its sort of a back round story (Oh, and I’d like to try writing in first person if y’all don’t mind :)) :
I was born in ancient Rome. It’s a cool place, all right. Full of flourishing gardens, marble statues, sundials, and coliseums. People walk around in flowing togas, and fancy orators proclaim things that I don’t want to hear from raised platforms. I am from a somewhat wealthy family. My father isn’t a lord or anything, but he does have a good amount of money. I’m taught by a tutor, a surprising fact since I am a girl. But that’s fine by me. It helped a lot with what happened next.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
First of all, Rome has a large slave population; escaped men and women who fled their masters and mistress to mingle with the large crowd in our city. My friends, Casius, is one of these. But he says life is still not very well for him. He doesn’t always have food, and his house is small and cramped. But at least he’s free, he says. Though at times it doesn’t seem worth it, for as a slave at least you get good meals and a place to sleep.
Well, every time I can get away I bring him some flat bread or figs or expensive peacock that I didn’t want to eat for dinner. He is always very appreciative and once made me a small silver — courtesy of my name, Silvia — charm of a little bird. He is very skilled. I know he shall find a job soon. Now, noble women are not free to roam the streets by themselves, so that is when I beg Lardia, my maid servant, to loan me one of her dresses.
This, of course, has little to no importance with what I am about to say. What I really want to tell you about is our courtyard, surrounded on all sides by our large villa. It’s a rather large one, with a fountain. I like to sit out there and watch the birds. Cicero, my cheetah, has told me more than once with his body posture that he wouldn’t mind ending their little lives for me. I tell him no every day, and every day he eyes me with those green-yellow eyes, begging. It’s a pitiful sight, but I cannot give in.
I know. I’ll get to the point. I was thirsty one day and went to the fountain for a drink. Well, Cicero was in a frenzy to get at a large rat that suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and bumped me in the behind. In I toppled, and I didn’t get out.
Nope, I kept sinking until I was falling, if you get what I mean. I fell onto hard packed earth, if you see my point. I was in another time, another place, if you can tell what I’m saying. I had entered a time portal, and if that hadn’t been enough, Cicero, in all his loyalty — despite the fact that he hates water, I must give him that — landed on top of me.
So here I was, in a strange land far from anything I knew and loved. I would soon learn, however, that this land was called the United States of America, a new world across the sea, one of which no one knew about; at least in my time. And what was the date? April 12, 1861. Welcome to my world.
July 1, 2020 at 1:41 pm #50795Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
YEEEEESSSSSSS!!! Thank you Wingiby for being the one to finally start us!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!
Oooh, I like that idea of writing in first person. It’s unique and fun. I don’t mind it at all! I think its great!
I loved your post!! It was awesome! I like how you gave us backstory and dropped Silvia into 1861! (the time of the civil war, which is my one of my favorite time periods. I like where this is going 😉 )
July 1, 2020 at 1:45 pm #50797CrazywriterGuest
OOHHHHH MYYYY WOOORD!!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!
I am such a HUGE CIVIL WAR GEEK. I am literally, creepily, obsessed with it.
Percy is from a time period from the future where the earth has swords as well as guns. If that makes sense
July 1, 2020 at 1:47 pm #50798Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Sounds goo. Makes sense to me!
And I am, too! I LOVE LEARNING ABOUT THE CIVIL WAR!!
July 1, 2020 at 1:56 pm #50800Wingiby IggibyGuest
YAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, y’all! I’m so glad we’re starting to move on with the tale now! We are learning about the Civil War in history, so it just made sense to plop Silvia in somewhere that was fresh in my memory! 😉 So glad y’all like it too! I loved studying the time of the Romans as well, so I thought, Rome plus Civil War equals AWESOME!
Oh, and Crazywriter, sounds great!
July 1, 2020 at 2:13 pm #50804Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
YES! The Civil War plus Romans equal a RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME combination!
*typo alert. Meant ‘sounds good, not ‘sounds goo’
July 1, 2020 at 3:40 pm #50824Kylie WingfeatherGuest
I’m good with time traveling to the Civil war. Ok, here I go!!!
My name is Andromeda O’Brian, and I’m twelve years old. I live in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with my mom, dad, older brother, older sister, and my springer spaniel, Arrow. My family may seem normal, but we’re not. In fact, we’re just the opposite, because my family are time-travelers.
You see, this all begins with my great-grandfather, Patrick O’Brian. He immigrated from Ireland to the US when he was sixteen, and when he got older, he became an archeologist. He was on a excavation in Rome when he discovered a ancient Roman fountain (Silvia’s fountain 😁). Though it was thousands of years old, it seemed untouched by time. While taking it to a museum in England, the boat was suddenly rocked by rogue waves and Patrick tumbled into the fountain. Instead of hitting the bottom, he went back in time. When he got back to his own time, the English museum didn’t want it, so my great-grandfather took it to his own home in America and ever since, my family has been time-travelers.
I have never time-traveled myself, but my older brother and sister, Perseus and Cassiopeia, and my parents too, have done it lots of times. And maybe, just maybe, my parents will let me go on this next trip to the period of the Civil War.
July 1, 2020 at 3:48 pm #50825Wingiby IggibyGuest
That was so clever with the fountain, Kylie! I love it! 😀
July 1, 2020 at 4:26 pm #50836Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Kylie: I love that! The tie with the fountain was so great (like Wingiby said) and I promise I will try to post today. If not, I definitely will tomorrow. 🙂
One question: are we all writing it in first person? I noticed you and Wingiby are, so I was wondering if I’m supposed to. Or does it not matter? 😀
July 1, 2020 at 5:40 pm #50840Wingiby IggibyGuest
I don’t care in which person you write! Whatever you feel works best for you! I just liked doing it for a change, for I usually write in third person. 😉
July 1, 2020 at 10:01 pm #50865Denali ChristiansonGuest
Alright…just because I can’t imagine Kirielle as a first person kinda gal, I’m gonna write in third person…
Kirielle sat at her desk in her apartment. An archaic device known as a fan blew cool air in her face, helping to eliminate some of the extreme heat of the Arkansas day. She typed on the ancient computer, wishing for one of the current ones from the 27th century.
Oh well, she thought. At least this one can still make the calculations.
At age eight, Kirielle had been dropped in the 21st century due to a time machine accident. Her parents had been killed, and for six years she hopelessly roamed the streets of Pierre, South Dakota, wondering what her life meant and why she was here, and why she shouldn’t just commit suicide. One night, when she was rooting around in a dumpster for food, she had come across a big black book. It was called the Holy Bible. Kira couldn’t explain why, but she felt compelled to sit down and read the book. She let it fall open, and it landed on the Gospel of Matthew. She started reading, and the next day accepted Jesus Christ as her savior. Along with her newfound joy came a newfound determination to use her life for something. She vowed that somehow, some way, she would find a way back to her time, prevent the accident, and preach the Word of God to the people in that time.
So here Kirielle sat, staring blankly at her computer screen while her mind wandered. She shook her head and went back to her calculations. She had been working on this ratty problem for three hours, ever since she had gotten back home from her job working at a coffee shop, and she still hadn’t figured it out.
She sighed, stood up, and walked to the small kitchen in her apartment. She stretched, opened the refrigerator door, and pulled a raspberry iced tea out. She cracked the lid, took a deep swig, and then screwed the lid back on. Something warm rubbed up against her leg, and she looked down to see her husky, Noriana, staring up at her expectantly. She rolled her eyes and dumped a little dribble of the tea on the floor, watching as Nori lapped it up. She smiled. She had found the little abandoned puppy two days after her decision to follow Christ, and she had taken the dog with her when she moved to Arkansas where she could find a job and begin her research.
Kira took her iced tea back to the computer and sat down, ready to solve her math problem.
July 1, 2020 at 10:25 pm #50868Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Nice, Denali! I love it!
I think I’ll write in third person ’cause I think that fits Cassiopeia best, if that’s alright 😀
July 2, 2020 at 12:19 am #50870CrazywriterGuest
Percy clicked the pen, then unclicked it. He then proceeded to suck on the clicker. He was intensely studying a sheet of paper before him.
The heading read,
Aptitude for Time & Space Wanderings Marine
He scribbled down the answer to the question, then folded the paper neatly, and stood, and placed it before the grader.
The grader’s crisp uniform was neatly starched, and he looked perfect. The rank on his shoulder indicated he was a major.
He looked out the window. Gettysburg Pennslyvania was a crowded place in 2087. Bustling people, industrial factories. It was a remake of the late 1800s. Farms were everywhere outside the town, while inside it there was hardly a blade of grass.
He sighed, and looked out at the space shuttles, taking off to the colony on the moon. Alot had changed in 50 years. His grandfather had told him stories. But Percy didnt need the stories to remind him. He had been there himself.

Ok, I’m going to the lake for the day so I won’t be able to write anything until tonight.
July 2, 2020 at 6:04 am #50878Kylie WingfeatherGuest
P.S. We’ve gotten started, we’ve gotten started! * does a little happy dance *
July 5, 2020 at 12:46 pm #50927Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Yay! We can post again!
I know, Kylie! I’m so excited! How was your trip to the lake?
Happy late 4th of July! How was everyone’s? Mine was a little chaotic because my neighbor’s yard caught fire and my other neighbors were kinda rowdy. I felt really bad for my animals because they were so scared of the fireworks. But overall, it was fun.
July 5, 2020 at 1:19 pm #50930Wingiby IggibyGuest
Whoa, Thwapling, sounds like you had a “blast!” Your poor pets! I’m just glad our dog isn’t afraid of fireworks. We went to see some, but didn’t actually light any ourselves. My littlest brother, the Lore Wain, was sick 🙁 so we didn’t do too much. But we had a good day anyway! 😉
Also, I hope your neighbors yard turns out ok! My sister once lit an oven mitt she was wearing on fire…
July 5, 2020 at 1:27 pm #50931Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
Yeah, it’s a good thing your dog isn’t afraid of fireworks! We didn’t really light any ourselves, either. The only ones we did light were sparklers, which was fun.
Aw, I hope your little brother gets better!
I’m glad you guys had a fun day!
Thanks! Other people ran over really quickly and helped put it out, so it didn’t spread.
WHAT?! How’d she do that? Was she ok?
July 6, 2020 at 9:29 pm #51046Denali ChristiansonGuest
I had a great 4th! We went to a drag strip and watched race cars and then they had this awesome fireworks display and I’M SAD THAT THIS FORUM IS ABOUT TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 6, 2020 at 9:35 pm #51052Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
That’s cool, Denali!
WE HAD ONLY JUST STARTED!! I hadn’t even got to post my first one, yet. IM SOOOOOOOOOO SAD
July 7, 2020 at 7:29 am #51086Kylie WingfeatherGuest
Well, We could move it to the NanoWrimo Young Writers Program. I know Twapling, Wingiby, and Crazywriter have accounts on there. What do y’all think?
July 7, 2020 at 9:16 am #51092Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
That’s a great idea, Kylie! I don’t know how to write with someone on there, because I just made an account, but I can figure it out!
July 7, 2020 at 9:17 am #51093Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
But Denali said she can’t be on there, so we’ll lose her. 🙁
July 7, 2020 at 3:45 pm #51141Denali ChristiansonGuest
I might be able to do Story Embers though. No guarantees though and it might be awhile. BUT I WILL FIND YOU GUYS AT SOME POINT OR ANOTHER AND THAT’S A PROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 8, 2020 at 4:10 pm #51217Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
I’m on Story Embers as Mischievous Thwapling. That’ll be my name everywhere.
Yeah, Denali!! I’ll keep an eye out for you! It is a small world where lots of things overlap, so I have high hopes that one day our paths will cross again!!!!!
July 8, 2020 at 6:16 pm #51220Wingiby IggibyGuest
DENALI!!!!!! I WILL see you again, somehow; although I haven’t ACTUALLY SEEN you! 😛 But we will meet again!
July 8, 2020 at 9:55 pm #51224Mischievous ThwaplingGuest
What if we move to Story Embers? I deleted my account on NaNoWriMo, so I’m not on there anymore.
July 9, 2020 at 6:19 pm #51252JazzyfreshGuest
Just letting everyone know that the forum’s are shutting down and if you want to stay in touch with other flabbits to go to “brainstorming for ways to reach each other” at the flabbit room.
sorry if I Interrupted. Just making sure no-one is left behind.
July 12, 2020 at 9:16 pm #51365Kylie WingfeatherGuest
I think I’m going to be able to do Story Embers, so how about we move this forum over there?

Yeah! That would be great. I’m Mischievous Thwapling on there as well, what are y’alls’ names?

I’m wingiby Iggiby, and my profile pics the same. We can copy and paste this over there! I’ll try to start a topic for it, but if y’all get there ahead of me, that’s fine!

Alright! But we really have to hurry, since the forums close for good in probably an hour-ish (I’m not Madame Sidler, she just said the forums would close today around lunchtime.)

Yeah. I am really sad. 🙁 I’ll try to set something up later, it will probably be in the Fantasy section. If not, look at recent posts.

Ok, so I’m going to set it up. I’ll just call it The Time travel collaborative story.

Hey all! Just letting you know that I’ll be closing the Flabbit Room subforum in about 30 minutes. (My lunchtime is a bit late today!) Once that happens, no further posting will be possible, but you’ll still be able to see old conversations until the new site is fully complete later this summer. I’ve loved having such a vibrant little community here, and am so glad you’re finding ways to stay connected. 🙂
