Women in Italian advertising are often oversexualized and this time it is being done by KRAFT—advertising Philadelphia Cream Cheese!
As you can see by the ad pictured above, you may not need any kind of translation to see where the ad is going. The first half the ad, with the women, is translated to:
“Eat like you love.”
I think you get the idea.
Now, for the second part of the ad, the side with the Philadelphia Cream Cheese:
What are we selling, again?
After further review, there are plenty of examples of this kind of advertising in Italy. This is nothing new. But this is KRAFT Philadelphia Cream Cheese!
Shame on them.
The Power of Culture
Meanwhile, you can’t overlook the fact that many cultures, not just the Italian culture, severely oversexualize and stereotype women in ways they shouldn’t (here’s a closer look at Italian TV’s portrayal of women ). If you’re reading this in the United States and think you’re immune to this, think again. It’s only a matter of time and you’ll follow these footsteps. Have you heard of Lady Gaga or the Lingerie Football League? Like I said.
In Italy, this mix of an oversexualized view of women (and even legal prostitution) only continues to make fighting sex trafficking in Italy more difficult.
