March 8th was International Women’s Day and Catapult brought the issue front and center in an amazing way. They put together three different glossy women magazine covers that you would recognize at any Walmart or grocery store checkout line, and made the tragedy of so many young girls the front page feature.
Here are two more:
Just look at those headlines!
- The first magazine focuses on child brides:
“This year, 14 million girls – some as young as eight years old – will be married against their will.”
- The second looks at child labor trafficking:
“An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked into slavery each year. 80% are girls.”
- The third and final highlights child sex trafficking:
“In New York City, the average age at which a girl first becomes a victim of commercial sexual exploitation is 13.”
International Women’s Day may be over, but you can still make this “more than just a cover story.”
