Our family has loved the books and the 15 minute short. Someone NEEDS to make this into a regular show to bring this world to a wider audience.

I was so impressed by this series that I had to keep reading! I love a good story, but the Maker has given Andrew Peterson such a gift that I love this series probably more than any I’ve ever read. The characters are complex and relatable, though never predictable. The story is constantly engaging, and follows the threads that have engrossed humans for ages (redemption, heroism, sacrifice, family, etc.), but it is simultaneously new and unique. A very fresh flavor in each new book! I was encouraged and inspired, and that is so rare for books these days. Its rare for me to get so into a book that I feel like exclaiming aloud, but the the chapter in North! Or be Eaten called “the fate of Sara Cobbler,” had me wanting to yell encouragements and defiance at the same time. (I won’t spoil it!). I’m not a super emotional person, but I almost cried at that part (and a few others).
The books have strong moral light beaming all throughout, but never come across as preachy. I can tell you, these books inspired me in my faith, and I am glad to have found a series I can stand behind as a fan.
The church and the world at large need voices in every corner, shining the light of Christ. Tucked in webpages on Amazon, sitting in the fantasy section at barnes and nobles, and moving over the airwaves on hoopla, these books radiate the hope and courage that believers have found through the stories of the ages. I highly recommend the Wingfeather saga.

Keep writing! My 13 year old son and I are on our 3rd book of the series now. The books are great! Developed characters and amazing adventures at every turn. I would also like to thank you for writing a book where not only are the girl characters strong but the BOYS are too! Its refreshing to see a strong boy with courage.

Hello! I finally got around to reading this series and I just wanted to say that I absolutely love it.The characters, the story, the quirky worldbuilding (I’m also an author of fantasy books, so I know how much effort worldbuilding takes!) it’s all fantastic. These stories touched me very deeply and I’m glad to have found them. The characters are just so real, I truly connected with them and the story. Like, I’m never going to get over how incredibly beautiful the part with Janner in the Fane of Fire is, and the power of Leeli’s songs to drive away darkness, and how incredibly kind and compassionate Kal turned out to be, and Artham and his entire storyline (I’m actually pretty sure I’m just never going to get over these books in general, actually).

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I really loved this series. It effortlessly wriggled its way into my lineup of favorite book series (along with Narnia, Lord of the Rings and many others). I pre-ordered the new hardcovers as soon as I discovered they existed, and I have to say that I am very excited over the fact that there may someday be a movie to go along with this series.

Also, just a fun fact; I discovered this series while I was in college! A friend of a friend told me about it after I saw “The Warden and the Wolf King” lying in a pile of books in their house. It took me about two years to actually get around to reading them, but I’m so glad I did!

This story is a beautiful work. I have 2 boys 6 and 3 right now and we are listening through for the second time. I would compare this work to the Lord of the rings and Chronicles of Narnia and of recent the Circle Series by Ted Dekker. In the end when Calmar says “he never left me.” for some reason unknown to me I wept. This story awakens the deep part. Thank you. Oh also I now have a little song maiden on her way. due date is march.

Listened to the whole saga on Hoopla app. Had mixed responses to some aspects of both the story and the recordings. But over all, a very engaging story. Now my daughter is consuming it. I keep telling her, well it will get worse before it gets better. I sigh deep within when I contemplate how it all consumates in the end.

    Mr. Peterson,

I read the Wingfeather Saga to my kids last year, and we all wanted you to know how much we enjoyed them. We were truly blessed by these wonderful stories. The story brought me to tears at numerous points. We laughed, cried, and rejoiced throughout the journey! Reading these books was frequently the highlight of the day in my house. We have read other stories after this and none of them measure up to Wingfeather. My kids want to know if you will write another book to continue the story. They want to know what happens next!

But most of all, we want to express our appreciation for you and these books. May God bless you and your family.

    In Christ,

Your books are so awesome! I own them all and they are by far the best books that live on my over stuffed shelf! Its a whole new world for me and other readers to explore with laughs, scares, and so so may adventures! I fell in love with the characters instantly and the story gripped me so intensely that I couldn’t put it down. Literally i took it where ever I went and finished each book in a couple days. At first i read the warden and the wolf king because it was recommended in a magazine. (don’t ask me why a read that one first) then i got them all from the library several times enjoying them more each time. And finally for my birthday I received them all!!! now on rainy days I get them and sit down ready for adventure and thrills. If i go on a trip I always bring one or two of them and i read the m over and over again! Say goodbye to J. K. Rowling and welcome the new most awesome books the Wing Feather Saga!!! The only thing I can complain about is that there aren’t any more! i wish you would make another series about them, or continue the current one! In fact as i finish writing this I will go and pull out my favorite one and settle down with my favorite one (the monster in the hollows) and let the afternoon fall away!

    Hi Andrew,
Just wanted to say how much I love your books! I’m 26 years old and ordered them “for my younger siblings” (who also love them!) and have just finished the fourth book. I really admire how you’re not afraid to have something really scary/sad/unexpected happen and let the characters work through it. I literally cried at the end of the third book (mostly because I absolutely adore the live version of “My love has gone across the sea” and heard it in my mind’s ear as Leeli played it in the story) and was constantly surprised with every turn the story took! The whole tale has stirred my heart ๐Ÿ™‚ (Also, I really want to play a whistle harp, being myself a tin whistle player and having dabbled in playing the Celtic harp as well!!) Thank you so much for writing these beautiful stories!

Your books are amazing! My favorite character is Artham then Janner. Like both of them i am the oldest child, and love to write.
You should make a real movie the if producers can make orcs and Balrogs they can make fangs too.
In the cartoon your making i am confused. In the Warden and the Wolf King (The one with my favorite art Leeli, janner, and Artham look different then the ones in the cartoon. Also North or be Eaten says Artham’s hair was black.
Your books are one of my two favorite books ever. (The other is LOTR) I am working on writing a book and i have a question. Could you tell me how you created your bad guy? Is the Wingfeather Tales available if you were not able to do the fundraiser?
Your books are in the words of me and many others “AWESOME” I have recomended them to a lot of people three of whom actually read it and love it.

As an literature major, I have never been so confused about a book series. Don’t know what to make of ’em. I have been brought to tears with both joy and grief; in the same sentence, I have had strong impulses to ponder deeply the wisdom and truth as well as to laugh until I don’t have breath; I have been convicted with past pain and tickled to mirthful tears. I cannot read them at night; they make me laugh too hard. I cannot read them during the day; they don’t appear to studious enough to pass for homework. What am I supposed to do with these!? I have decided:

I will boldly enjoy them to my heart’s content.

Thank you, Andrew, for writing these. I recommend them to all lovers of books whom I am lucky enough to count friends.

In closing, I am reminded of the words from our poet of great renown, The Chorkly Plumple:

    Unexpected

But sometimes the worst things are
    Unexpected.

Yes, this question is left very ambiguous. I was thinking maybe the first child would just rule, but I’m not sure. However, what if there were no royal children??? I’m thinking that a requirement for marrying the king/queen would be “you must have kids,” but if you couldn’t/didn’t, then my guess was that the Throne Warden or Song Maiden/Master’s children would then become the jewels.

Hi Andrew. I love all your Wingfeather saga books so much, I’ve decided to make an adventure map for it on Minecraft. I am not sure how much you know about Minecraft or adventure maps, but I think it’s gonna be pretty wicked!

I have a question, in the first book, on the Glipwood township map, what’s the fence behind the cottage?

    Andrew Peterson –
I was recently watching a VeggieTales show called “The Wonderful Wizard of Ha’s” with my siblings. There’s a song at the end, something about coming home, which sounded like you were singing it. Then I watched the credits and saw that you had written it, also! That was cool. (I was wondering if there ever was a full version of the song, and if there’s a way to obtain a copy). Also, I found out from one of the bonus features that you wrote the silly song “Monkey”. That was so funny!

Here’s a tidbit, for those of you that haven’t heard it –
Larry: If it has a tail it’s a monkey, if it doesn’t have a tail it’s an ape
Bob: I think you don’t understand
Larry: No, you don’t understand – If it has a tail it’s a monkey, if it doesn’t have a tail it’s an ape!
    Bob: But I don’t have a tail
    Larry: Then you’re an ape
Bob: No, you don’t get it!
Larry (upon finding a cow): It’s a monkey!

In the words of Liltino the Bigiferous, “I didn’t transcribe the words exactly – but I’m sure you won’t mind.”

Andrew, I need a book 5. Also, I discussed with my parents the coming back to life thing, and we decided that it wasn’t meant to be. It’s just too Jesus-like, and [spoiler] isn’t God. But maybe you had a different idea? However, my opinion is that they lived on in happiness, but he/she/it was still dead. Also, I never really liked [spoiler – who liked the one who died], because he/she/it seemed too sappy to me, so I’m almost glad. But not really, because whenever I want to play the Wingfeather Saga with my friends, we say that he/she/it is alive, but there’s still the niggling “dead!” in the background.
NEED A BOOK 5… maybe a sequel set in the same land, but with different characters? Like a child of Maraly, or Kalmar’s third son, or something?

I have some faint ideas of faces, but not really (and I must say, the drawings of Green and Grey Fangs in your books were dissapointing. So if that’s not how you really imagine, then let me know). Your books are comparable to Tolkien, Lewis, Paolini, Alexander, McDonald, Davis, Jaques, and all the other masters of fantasy. I have to say that my favorite still is Tolkien (LOTR, the hobbit, the tale of the children of hurin, roverandom, the adventures of tom bombadil, the silmarillion, lost tales, farmer giles of ham, leaf by niggle, and so many more) but yours come pretty close and hold so much meaning for kids. And adults. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Peterson, please reply to my earlier comment. I can start writing the script by January or February 2015; my friend is going to borrow my copy of On The Edge starting in Nov. ’14. I will keep the script as close to the book as possible (you can trust me on this one), and if you don’t like it, don’t use it or pay me for it. I can promise you that I have experience with this sort of thing (I am writing some Christian fantasy novels of my own right now). If you do happen to like it, I was hoping that you would partner with Disney or New Line Cinema (the producers of Narnia and LOTR/Hobbit [I <3 those movies]) and make a movie. You really should direct it.

I was a little confused about the scene at Miller's Bridge and how the geography all works out. Could you help me on this?

If you truly are interested, I'd like you to know that the email I entered, "[email protected]", won't really help you contact me. You will need to reply as "Danniby" (or, I guess, Andrew Peterson) and ask me what my email really is.

I wanted you to know how much WWK has helped me… I am an oldest child like Janner, and very selfish and bossy like him. (I also like to write, TONS, helping me relate to him more.) You can't imagine what the final chapters on the change in Janner's thoughts and life did to me. I am resolved that, if I find out that my little sister is the queen of a kingdom across the sea, I will try VERY HARD not to be jealous. I am trying to let the Maker into my heart, as Janner did. All oldest children should read this book. It will help them so much. I love your books so much; the last one changed my life. {A quick ??? Do you think that [spoiler] comes back to life? And is Artham healed?)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Andrew Peterson! Please reply soon. If you have any more kickstarters, let me know!! You should write a book about what happens next. Call it "The Golden Age of Anniera" or something. You need to write it, 'cause if you don't, I will, but it won't be nearly as good as if you did it.

So not sure where to ask this, but Oskar’s name has been bugging me for a while. I’m pretty sure that Oskar N. Reteep is an anagram for Peterson, but leaves me with r, a, k, and an extra e that I can’t do anything meaningful with. If you go with the full Oskar Nos Reteep, then you also have an extra o and s. With his full name, you could just reverse the last part and get Oskar Peeterson. Anyway, is there any light you can shed, Andrew, or is it just a personal in-joke for family and friends? Am I overthinking it all (as I am wont to do)?

You had me laughing out loud many, many times, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the characters, or Torrborro and its kitten-loving rulers, or the Green Hollows, or anything! I can’t wait for the fourth!

I’ll start by saying that the Wingfeather Saga books are amazing! I’ve read a lot of books but this , if not the very top, it comes very close. I have loved books like Redwall, Harry Potter, Inheritance Cycle, Rangers Apprentice, and the Dragon Keeper books but I feel these top them all! Your books have a humor that is totally unique, the kids still feel like kids not adults playing at being kids, the story is griping and won’ let me go! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m amazed at your ability to keep hope alive for the charters. The books are not just fluff, they show a very real and very scary evil but there is something greater and more wonderful than the evil. That the power of the evil is a perversion of what was good and that good is stronger than the bad. I understand/relate to Janner and his struggle to do whats right vs. what he wants. In the midst of this seriousness there parts are that have me rolling on the ground laughing! I miss the footnotes! I still remember the story of Tombilly and Ma Vorba and I still laugh when read the footnotes (I just finished rereading the books). I realized while rereading the series that at the end of The Monster in the Hollows I missed entire paragraphs I was reading so quickly. Such great plot twists! There were many twists and turns I never saw coming. So much happened in those last couple of chapters! I was laughing with joy one moment, crying the next and it all ended with joy and hope of things to come. Can’t wait for the next book!

I’m 29-I read the first two books a year ago and gave them as a parting gift to my boss’s daughter who I knew loved to read. She is constantly telling me how much she loves the books! Well, my husband knew how sad I was that I gave up my beloved books and he went out and got all 3 of them for me out of the blue. I literally danced and hopped with joy all over the house that day! Currently I’m working on my master’s degree and let’s just say that a new rule was enacted in our house: “Andrea can’t read Wingfeather books while in school”. I just could NOT put them down. I read book 2 again and somehow it felt more real and amazing than I remember it being the first time around. My husband probably heard me crying, laughing and shouting when I read those books! He’s about to start on the first one now. I told him that I can’t wait until he’s done reading all 3 of them so he can be as miserable as me while I wait for the 4th.
Andrew you are a great writer and God has blessed you. Keep up the great work!!
P.S It would be nice to see more illustrations posted. I want to see so much, like for example what does Tink look like now? Does Janner’s scars make him look super battle weary? What does Artham look like now that he’s more majestic? AHHH PLEASE POST PICTURES!!!!

Can’t wait for the new one, and really hope you don’t kill Artham off. That would make me bawl like a baby. He’s the best. : ) Of course, I know I’ll cry anyway, it’s inevitable.

    Mr. Peterson,
My children and I are thoroughly enjoying your books. The stories you tell come to life as we read along. Your magically descriptive phrases create a mini movie in our minds as we travel along on your adventures. We are eager to bring them with us on our own journeys, but were saddened to learn that not all of the books in The Wingfeather Saga are available in audio book format. These stories are perfectly framed to carry you along and deliver you to your destination at a seemingly faster pace. Thank you for sharing your world with us, and we look forward to finishing this adventure with you, perhaps even as we travel.
    Sincerely,

I have been a huge fan of yours since Carried Along, and you are a tremendous writer and musican. Powerful deep lyrics, in a world where solid song writing has been all but forgotten, or maybe worse, forsaken.

As much as I hate to say it, I love your books , just a little more than I love your music. Just a thought, take your time on the next book. I’m reading monster now, and it is wonderful, it seems a little rushed though. The characters and scenes don’t seem quite as developed as the first two were. I completely forgot I was reading a book, you made everything so real.

As much I would love to see the next book tomorrow, it’s worth the wait. Thank you for blessing me by using your talent both in music and in writing. (Even though I like the books better, if I HAD to choose one and never know the other, I’d definetly choose your music, hands down)

    Blessings

I just finished reading the second book to my two children (9 and 6). The nine year old was so drawn into the story that she read the last five chapters on her own ahead of me! She was so guilty about reading ahead that she wrote me an apology note. The note concluded with “I swear by the holes and the hallows I will never read ahead again”. What a gift to have such captivating stories to read to our children.

Warden and the Wolf King predictions:

    The Likely~
    1) Leeli will do something awesome.
    2) The Jewels visit the secret chamber with the seeing stones.
    3) Artham dies (sorry, it just makes too much sense).
    4) We learn the histories of Bonifer Squoon and the Stone Keeper.
    5) Gnag loses.
    6) Janner + Sara (probably in the inevitable “10 years later” segment at the end).
    7) Janner goes sailing on his own.
    8) Abounding references to the great authors of Annierian history.
    9) I will be brought to tears at some point. Okay, probably many points.

    The Maybe~
    1) A visit to Ridgerunner territory.
    2) A visit to the Blackwood.
    3) The return of Armulyn the Bard (where’s he been, anyway?)
    4) Another transformation (I doubt Kalmar will become human again, but maybe a further transformation similar to Artham. Or maybe the stones can be used to rebuild the wrecked kingdom of Anniera).
    5) The sea dragons somehow help out the Jewels.
    6) Kalmar + Maraly (probably in the inevitable “10 years later” segment at the end).

    The Questionable~
    1) The return of footnotes (what’s the deal with ditching them in MITH?)
    2) We learn who Eric is (his house is on the map of Ban Rona- who is this guy?)

Thanks for these books! These are the first I’ve ever read twice in a row- I’ve always felt there is too much to read to do that, but I wanted to relive every moment again.

We are trying to raise awairness of the fack that red squirrles are being kicked out of their homes by the gray squirrles. it’s all in a certain issue of “Ranger Rick,” which I know your son, Aedan, reads because I’ve seen his blog. How you manage to do so many things at once; write your books, draw your pictures, keep in touch with your fans, make your amazing songs, and keep up with posts on your website and twitter is beyond me. I hope one day I can be a great author like you. Your stories inspire my thoughts, and give voice to my dreams. They bring me closer to the Maker of heaven and Earth. I spend nights up late reading in bed because I canโ€™t put my book down. Every chapter has a new surprise, one that shocks me, fills me with joy, excites me, saddens me, or leaves me on the edge of my seat. The characters are so real; I love each and every one in their own way. I like to make up tunes for the songs and sing them all the time. The sights, sounds, smells, and feelings are so real in your descriptions; I sometimes forget Iโ€™m not one of the Wingfeathers off in Aerwiar. Thank God for Andrew Peterson!

So my 9yo son & I were sort of fighting over The Monster over the past few days. He finished it about 8 hours before I did, then we looked at each other & said simultaneously “I can’t wait til Book 4!!” We have recommended the Saga to so many people. My 9yo is so much like Janner, my 8yo son like Kalmar, and my 5yo daughter like Leeli. Really, it’s uncanny how similar – I think it is helping my oldest understand and have more patience with his brother. And now I’m glad my 3yo son will have a title when they begin acting out the story.
Keep writing! We’ve enjoyed (loved/been blessed by) your songs from the first time we heard you in concert 10ish years ago. May the Lord continue to bless you, your family, and your work. (love your son’s artwork!)

I think I am the female version of Janner: I love to read(I read the third one in less than three hours), I love to write(I’m in the middle of writing five books), I’m the oldest(sadly, I have the same bed time as a six year old), I have two younger siblings(although, as far as I know, neither of them is High Queen of a faraway country) (both girls). I love Sara and Janner, but Tink/Kalmar is cool too.

We got our Monster in the Hollows a couple of weeks ago (although our 8 year old doesn’t know it!!). It was immediately hidden away and will make a triumphal entry when we camp in Yosemite in June. We read it aloud, together, around the fire as a ‘family book’ and enjoy every moment. The end of the night’s reading is always punctuated by a loud ‘Nooooo!’ as the reader decides that the stopping point for the day has been reached and the book will be continued the next day. Can’t wait to read it. We are recommending it to all our friends especially those who enjoy LOTR and Narnia.

Instead of flipping a Skreean coin to see who gets to read it first, three of us (Mom and two boys) will be taking turns, reading five chapters at a time and passing it to the next person. No fair giving hints or telling what happens! I offered to read aloud, but apparently I don’t do the voices right for the other readers. And we were most impressed to see that our book had been signed by the author himself – thank you!

In the summer of 2010 my daughter was assigned “On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness” as her summer reading project. She attends Back Creek Christian Academy in Charlotte, NC. I read most of the literature that she is assigned so that we can discuss it. I often get her started on a reading session by reading aloud a few paragraphs or pages. “On the edge” hooked me immediately. I read “North or be Eaten” soon after and I can’t wait for “The Monster in the Hollows”.

Totally thrilled with these books! A friend’s daughter recommended them to me. I am highly recommending them to others! Love love love them! Can’t wait for the next one.

All this to say, put quill to parchment and let the tome form. We are not particularly patient in awaiting the further adventures in this saga. What will become of Sara Cobble of the shining blue eyes? Will the Fork Factory be shut down? Will the nasty Fangs of Dang ever be routed? Who is the Stone Keeper and when will her unnatural reign of terror and transformation be stopped? How will General Khrak receive his comeuppance? How many other amazing creatures will our heroes meet – and flee from? Will Kalmar ever be free of his Fang curse? Will Anniera regain her former beauty and magic once the Jewels are reinstated?

Get busy, before you get too old to remember where you were going with all this. Or, in the sage advice of one Helmus V. Thagplotts, โ€œWriteโ€ฆor be forgotten.โ€ยน

    __________________________________________________________
    1. Unfortunately, Helmus V. Thagplotts was so busy instructing others to โ€œWriteโ€ฆor be forgotten,โ€ that he didnโ€™t have time to follow his own advice. Thus this is one of the few oral traditions of Annieran history.

    Dear Mr. Peterson,
    I’m eight.
I love your books, and I want you to make many more.
When I finished the first one I was anxious for the next.
I’m still reading “North or be Eaten,” but when I’m done I’ll
want the next book your writing.
I want to ask you is Artham Wingfeather based on your own
    brother?
My favorite characters are Artham, Nugget, Janner, Tink, and Podo

I think I’m most like Janner in most times.

I hope you write me back soon

I was having a hard time getting to sleep one night, and I was reading Edge at the time, so I picked it up and read the two chapters where the Igiby boys investigated Anklejelly Manor and encountered horned hounds and the ghost of Brimney Stupe. I drifted off to sleep pleasantly spooked, the shadows in my room filled with the beasties I had just read about.

I can’t wait to read The Wingfeather Saga to my youngest brother. I know he’s curious about this Peet the Sock Man character I keep mentioning, but we’re in the middle of another book at the moment, and he may want to finish out the series. I know that whenever we get to it, I’ll have loads of fun doing Peet’s voice. ๐Ÿ˜€ My dad will probably mandate that The Reading of The Wingfeather Saga be a nightly thing instead of just when I put my brother to bed, because I know he loves it just as much as I do.

I have several suspicions regarding what will happen in the series, but I don’t know if I should put them here. . .

May the Maker bless you in your tale-weaving, for all our sakes, but primarily for His glory.

I was just wondering if you had ever thought about maybe making a poster or something like that (maybe a coffee mug!) for the saga or any of the books, because that would be really cool and I would buy it (whatever “it” happens to be).

I stumbled upon the audio version of the Edge while downloading some new songs of yours. I have LONG been a fan of your music. Of course you are a storyteller! I just recently finished North! and am still sitting here with the aftershocks of wonderment. Thank you so much for being true to your imagination. It is such a joy! It’s a wee bit of a drive for me, but I would so much love to hang out at the Warren and be awash with all the talent that travels through.
We are currently going through a snow storm and I’m home bound for day two of what looks like to be at least 3 or 4 days. I just opened your brother’s first book and am already lost in another world. How wonderful!

    Hi Andrew

Just read NOBE, thank you for drawing me into mysteries of the faith that I don’t have words for but find being unveiled in your writing.

I am a musician and father and teacher and husband and environmental educator, and among various pursuits I make musical instruments. I have a mind to have a go at making a whistle harp. How do you see and hear such a device? Are the harp strings tuned to the whistle strings? What is the scale on the whistle? Are those 2 bottom holes on the whistle part of Leeli’s instrument for tuning or do you put your fingers on them? Sorry – instrument maker questions…

Hope to hear from you, and may His story keep unfolding for and through you.

    Cheers

I am an English major and I love children’s books. I agree with you that stories for children should be full of light and Truth, and so I want to thank you for writing such stories. Your music has touched me and reminded me to stay child-like, even when the world tries to take my innocence away. Your music and stories help me to hold on to it tightly. For school, I’ve been having to write a lot, so several times I just wrote about the Wingfeather Saga and that made it a lot of fun! By the way, Tink and my younger sister remind me of each other, the way they both seem to always be hungry… I bought Behold the Lamb of God at the concert and on the back you list Leeli Igiby as one of the singers. WHAT?!?! That is quite confusing… Please please please have more concerts in the St. Louis area? That would be extremely awesome! I like the eight eyed slog. ๐Ÿ˜€ You should put that in your books. ๐Ÿ˜€

I must say I have very much enjoyed your first two Wingfeather books. I finished North! Or Be Eaten a few minutes ago. I find that your story hooked me from the start and I hope to end up with a story just as good featuring my own characters.

I’m quite curious–how long have you been tinkering with the Wingfeathers? I’ve been working on my story for several years now.

At some point I will see about doing some drawings of your characters (most of them will likely be of Artham). However, lives tend to be busy for some reason and one often finds oneself with a lot of things to do, like doing math or running from Gray Fangs.

I just finished reading On the Edge… to my 3rd grade class in Landrum, SC and they were so enthralled! It’s great fun to see their faces as I read a particularly suspenseful or exciting part, and to see them make predictions about “who/what those darn jewels are”. We have visited your website several times and they love the Creaturepedia.

I am thinking about starting North! with them but may run out of time before the end of the school year. Any chance of getting a class set at a (major) discount? ๐Ÿ˜‰ It would be a fabulous summer gift to them! I have recommended the series to our school librarian and hope she will purchase a few copies for the future.

I was working in the kitchen the other day while my 4 year old son Caleb was playing in his room alone (which is off the side of the kitchen) and as he always does he was talking to himself quite loudly. I asked what he was doing and he said he was playing North or Be Eaten Legos. I had to laugh. For one, I never read the book to him because he’s too young and secondly I read tons of books but for some odd reason he thought North or Be Eaten was a great story. Maybe it was the strange title or the pictures of creatures but whatever it was he created a line of Legos to go with it. I’d contact Hasbro to tell them but I don’t speak Chinese.

    Jenalynn,
You are very welcome! My story is kind of a sci-fi fantasy book, concerning Time and Love, and growing up. It is kind of in the style of Madeline L’engle, and I have been inspired by many people (including yourself!). All of my inspirations, my ideas, stolen words and ideas :), all come together in a fantasy/adventure/science fiction-y story. It is going well, and your name is being used for one of the main characters. It means something along the lines of ‘God is gracious, sea of sorrows’ and that fits the character very well. She is given another name towards the end, but she still uses Jenalynn, as her new name is, well, weird! ๐Ÿ™‚ Her companions name is changed too.

I just finished North! Or Be Eaten. It was great. I can’t wait ’til my little ones are old enough for me to read it to them. Like all good children’s books, it is silly and sad and scary in turns, and to people of all ages. I honestly had a hard time sleeping after I read about The Song Of The Ancient Stones. I can’t wait to learn more of the history of Aerwiar.
    Thank you!

Yeah, if I’m a mother I would want to be like Nia. I kind of relate to everyone. I can relate to Kalmar (Tink) because I’m the middle one in my family, I can relate to Janner because I seem to take care of my younger siblnig, and I can relate to Leeli because I love to sing and I would love to have a giant dog. ๐Ÿ™‚

You ask a hard question! Man, I don’t know what to say! I am quite a big reader, and I can’t help but learn every character backwards and forwards, so my choice is hard with so many great characters to choose from. I guess I would have to say Janner, or Nia. I know how Janner feels with being the oldest and having extra responsibilities, and I really admire Nia’s courage and faith. If I am ever a mother, I would want to be like her!

Here I am again answering someone else’s question!! Kristen– I know I am not an expert, but I felt so bad at you thinking your question wouldn’t be answered! But I don’t think Wendolyn is Khrak’s servant woman. I really truly think she died. But things aren’t always what they seem, especially in this series:) So I may be wrong, but would give her up for lost. Hope this helps!!

I love the places, characters, and creatures that you create. (toothy cows, snickbuzzards, and bomnubbles, oh my!) Thank you for creating something really amazing that others and I really enjoy!

I love your books so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait until the third book comes out! I love all of the characters! (Not the bad ones though.) I love the way you put every detail in there and it all fits. It’s inspiring! Whenever I read the first book, when Janner is in his bed thinking about the black carriage, I always think of a bible verse. “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” That always helps me when I can’t go to sleep. I love your books so much I don’t want them to end because it’s hard finding books at my age at the library because most of the books that I pick up have bad laguage and I don’t like reading those types of books. But I like adventure, mistery, christian books. Your books are like a haven I can go to.I agree with Arwog, be very careful about making a movie. In my opinion, I don’t think you should make a movie about the books because everyone has their own imagination and when someone makes a movie, a person won’t like it because it won’t look the way they thought it did. And people pronounce things differently. But you can still do a movie. Just be careful. I still love your books!

I can’t say how much my husband and I love your books and music. We’ve both been to several of your concerts, mostly in Lincoln, NE (yes, we’re Union kids). We added Dark Sea to our online wedding registry and a friend bought it for us. We read it aloud on our move across the continent the week after we married. It got us through traffic jams and flat tires with smiles.
Needless to say, we were anticipating North! with more than a little delight. And you didn’t disappoint. More outlandish creatures, sayings, characters and plot twists than you can put in a grocery bag! I loved them! (Bomnubbles! So funny. My husband thought I was saying abominable)
And yet it’s not just fluff and silliness. Thank you. Thank you for writing books that we can recommend to our students and friends. Thank you for the smiles and the tears.
Now when is book three coming out? And what’s the title?

On the topic of selling movie rights: If you’re going to do that please be very, very careful, because a lot of filmmakers totally ruin good books. I enjoyed the first book a lot (haven’t read the second yet, but I plan to), and I don’t want to see it ruined. Also, movies would have to be done carefully so as not to be too gory–some things are better to read about than to see. And I’m afraid that movies might not be able to capture all the imaginativeness that the books contain… I don’t want to be a wet blanket, I’m just saying please be careful so your good story doesn’t get ruined! ๐Ÿ™‚

My imagination is literally at full throttle when I read the two books and I just wish I could see those images on screen! We could finally hear the beautiful music that Leeli plays or see the wonderful images of this place you have written about.

I have enjoyed your two Wingfeather books very much. Peet the Sock Man is my new favorite book hero, and while I might not be a Throne Warden, I am the oldest in my family, and can sympathize with Janner’s desire to take care of younger siblings who don’t think they need taken care of.

We just finished North or Be Eaten after many happy nights of family read-alouds where our kids would inevitably beg “please just one more chapter..” when we had to stop. We loved the book (as we did the first one too) and feel like all the characters have become our friends and we have gone on their adventures with them because you made them so real. Our kids will quote sayings from the book ex.”The longer it sits the worser it gets” and our six year old when asked to suggest names for his soccer team threw out the names: Toothy Cows or the Fangs of Dang. The coach who had obviously not read the Wingfeather saga was a bit befuddled. I guess the ideas of yelling for the Toothy Cows to make a goal seemed odd to him but it made perfect sense to our little guy. All that to say, your hard work on these books is very appreciated. We can’t wait to see what the next adventure for the Igibys is going to be.

Wonderful website! The kids & I love seeing what some of the creatures look like. We’ve been through the book a couple times now, and it will be immensely helpful to be able to envision things accurately. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the kind words about the site, folks.

Breann: Yes, if J. Bird and the barber of Port William ever met, the time-space continuum would rupture.

Micah and Clay: Welcome to the site!

Ethan: You’re right. I need to do some research and uncover a few more pages from Pembrick’s Creaturepedia. He traveled Aerwiar for so many years, I’m certain he encountered each of them at one point or another. For a great picture of the sea dragons, visit the “Illustrations” page. Justin Gerard painted it, and if you look closely you can see the cliffs of Glipwood in the background.

Isaac: Nephew! I love you, kid. Glad you like the critters.

    Good stuff!
I think J. Bird should get together with the barber of Port William sometime. Seems they have a lot in common. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, my friend, not too shabby. I can’t recall many occasions (except for that Potter boy) where I stepped into a writers world while he or she was in the process of creating it. Narnia and Middle Earth were finished long before I was born. But Skree and the surrounding lands are coming alive a little at a time– and its a fun ride for me and my kiddos.

If you have a character named Joe Shooster, wouldn’t it be funny if he had a brother (or a dog) named Simon. Surely there could be an ironic purpose for someone named Simon Shooster. Maybe he could hang out with Harper Collins. Just sayin’.

And congrats on having Jonathan Rogers sign your guest book. He is a very, very famous man.

Andrew… this site & your book are brilliant. It has been so wonderful, discovering a new world, much like my favorite world – Narnia. And by “much like” i mean “almost nothing like” except in the way that it captures the imagination, is original, exciting, and an excellent mirror. Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for touching my life & the lives of so many others. Can’t wait for the next book!

I think your book was great, along with being hystericaly funny. We even read it in our youth group. Keep shining God’s glory and grace in the most random ways.

Hello, Andrew. Am I the first to sign the guestbook? (Please delete your test post, if you would be so kind). I’ve been wondering what a horned hound looks like. Now I know. In the words of Thyrlin the Mediocre, “It is always best to see the horned hound before the horned hound sees you. Though that still doesn’t mean you’ll survive.”
