GuestThe topic title pretty much sums it up. The Wingfeather Saga animated short film came out last year, and Im dying to see part two which, as far as I can tell, was promised to follow part 1 with an episodic series.
So, where is it?

KeymasterHi Jesse. Thanks for checking in. We’re dying to see the next installment too! I’m sorry for any confusion or miscommunication about that. The Kickstarter-funded short film is currently being shopped around to various studios, because we need a studio’s backing in order to continue telling the story. It’s been a long process, and Chris and Andrew have had some really great and encouraging conversations with studio executives, but it is sometimes discouraging that it’s taking so long, especially as we know you Featherheads are all waiting. If you want to help, the very best ways to do that are to share the film with your friends (studios want to know there’s a big audience waiting) and to pray for Chris and Andrew as they talk to the studios. Thanks so much. 🙂

GuestOutsource to Canada! It’s cheaper! :). I’m an animator from Ottawa, Ontario, and I would love to work on something like this. Unfortunately, the studio I work for doesn’t fund its own projects, we’re contracted by broadcasters and streaming sites, mostly. Plus we mostly do 2D stuff, so it might not be what you’re looking for. Have you tried approaching broadcasters and streaming sites, rather than just studios? Or pitching at Animation festivals?

Guestheres the thing I dont mean any disrespect but the wingfeather saga to put it frankly it isn’t popular enough to get someone to sponser it. Don’t get me wrong I love the series and think a animated series would be cool just I think its going to be really hard to find a big name company that will sponsor it

GuestI get that is isn’t the most popular series in the world, but my Hope is that if the Saga can get onto the screen and get non readers interested, that it’ll get bigger with time.

GuestHello thunder boy! Though you are correct that The Wingfeather Saga isn’t popular, that never means it won’t be sponsored! If the Maker wants it to happen it will happen! Who knows, once people see Toothy Cows and Ridgerunners on the screen, maybe people will be as into
The Wingfeather Saga as Warrior Cats and Harry Potter!

GuestA lot depends on what you mean by “popularity,” really. A lot of new movies and TV series that come out are completely new- no one has heard of them at all until they start advertising. (This hasn’t been as true in the past several years though- what is with all the movie remakes?!? But those are actually an anomaly in the overall scope of movie-making.)
It is true that there are a LOT of people out there who have never heard of the Wingfeather Saga. They don’t know what they are missing. But of the people I know who have read it, the majority have LOVED it, not just liked it.
The potential for a great movie or TV series is in there. But you are right that most of the people who are making decisions for the big studios have not heard of the Wingfeather Saga at all. That doesn’t automatically mean they will say no, but it means the process will be slower than if someone was already a fan and waiting for the chance to make this. Chris and Andrew (and whoever else is involved in this part, which I don’t know) will have to introduce them to the story, the characters, the ideas of how to animate it and make it interesting, etc. There ARE people who are at least interested, because Chris and Andrew have been having meetings and talking to them. I don’t know who they are or what group they are with or what stage of the process they are in, because it would be inappropriate for them to tell us fans that stuff. I don’t know if this is really going to happen or not. But it isn’t hopeless. There ARE people talking about it. And as one of my younger friends has said, if it doesn’t happen now, it may well happen in a few more years, when the movie-minded Wingfeather fans grow up enough to get jobs in the industry.
My big concern is not that it automatically get picked up, but that it be handled right. I want the real story to be told, not just something loosely connected to it- with a couple boys and a girl based in a world with Fangs. Some changes are inevitable, but I really hope the heart of the story comes through. I know if Andrew and Chris are involved, they love the story enough to make sure that happens. But if they can’t get someone who will let them tell the real story, I personally would rather it not be made at all. The books can stand alone if they need to.

GuestI if I am going to be frank don’t think the series will ever get a producer big enough to make it a well known series.

GuestI think it is well possible, remember that this is one of the “top 15 animated projects of all time” in terms of Kickstarter funding. Where there is a will there is a way. And in the words of who-ever-said-it-first “Never say Never!”
