A gang that was responsible for smuggling Chinese citizens into the United States and Europe have been busted.
Although the trafficking ring was based in China, two of the suspected leaders in Europe were arrested as part of this big bust.
What’s amazing to learn, is how much money is involved in human trafficking:
“The smugglers charged 40,000 to 50,000 euros ($53,000 to $66,000) to transport Chinese citizens, assigned with false identities, to the United States, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Britain, Ireland and Turkey, the statement said. Spain was the next-to-last stop for many before they went to the preferred locations of the United States and Britain, the statement said.”
There are two things that really jump out at me about this statement.
1. That’s A Crap-Load of Money
No wonder the trafficking business is so difficult to fight. Think about it: What most people earn in an entire year, these gangs charge to smuggle people. Now, here’s the real mind bender:
If you’re paying this much money to smuggle a person to use them for forced labor or sex, how much money must they “earn” for this to be highly profitable?
The initial estimate of approximately $60,000 must be a marginal investment. Considering how much is charged for sex acts for those being sex trafficked, they must service a great deal of customers everyday. And if they’re servicing that many customers everyday, who are these people?
2. I’m Looking At You Western World
Shame. On. Us.
As this news story states:
“…assigned with false identities, to the United States, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Britain, Ireland and Turkey…the preferred locations of the United States and Britain…”
Do you see the countries listed?
Moreover, do you see the preferred locations?
Go ahead and click “Like” if you want or wear a trendy t-shirt that makes a clever statement about being against sex trafficking, but it’s going to take a shift in our culture to stop sex trafficking. It’s the over sexualization of our society that has driven us to this place we’re in. The reason these girls are sex trafficked, is because it’s profitable.
Why is it profitable?
Because we’re buying.
And we’re buying, because our culture has become obsessed with sex.
What do you think?
